In March 1865, HSBC opened its doors for business in Hong Kong, helping to finance trade between Europe and Asia. A local bank in Hong Kong subsequently grew into a global financial institution. Leveraging the heritage of the global company with local historical references, we designed a series of History Walls incorporating graphics, objects and audiovisual in offices from Birmingham to Tokyo.
HSBC has relocated from its famous Midtown headquarters at 452 Fifth Avenue (scene of a previous History Wall) to The Spiral 66 Hudson Boulevard. Having signed a 20-year lease for 265,000 square feet at the Spiral, the iconic skyscraper will be the new U.S. headquarters for the London-based bank, occupying three of the building’s 65 floors.
Constructed on 28- acres over a working rail yard, Hudson Yards is New York’s newest neighborhood and home to more than 100 diverse shops and culinary experiences, offices for leaders in industry, significant public art and dynamic cultural institutions including The Shed, modern residences, 14 acres of public plazas, gardens and groves and the world’s first Equinox Hotel. It is also, of course, the location of Thomas Heatherwick’s Vessel. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), The Spiral features a dramatic series of cascading terraces that reach every tower floor delivering enhanced access to outdoor space.
