Our design and planning approach aimed to reinforce the key messages through immersive environments with the whole journey starting with the journey up through the city of Shanghai, towards the stars. This starting point for the experience was intended to provide visitors with an understandable reference point from which to consider the night sky and the effects of light pollution. We did not want to isolate Chinese traditions and advancements in the study of astronomy, but tried to give a greater sense of the flow of knowledge between cultures which acts as a prelude to the enhanced international cooperation existing in the field of autonomy and space exploration today.
A cornerstone of our approach was that we wanted to break down the academic compartmentalisation of the geographically-defined history of astronomy.
